The story of the place
Try to truly “switch off” and escape from everyday reality. Forget plastered walls, pavements and the noise of people around you. JANSKÁ CAVE offers a stay in an environment where both body and soul can rest, breathe and genuinely forget the worries of home.
A friend was considering buying a house, and I did not like any of them, until he jokingly sent me a link to a building plot with an underground space. And that is how it all began – by accident, really. We became the owners of a plot next to the Rabštejn underground factory in the beautiful protected landscape area of Labské pískovce. We are probably the first inhabitants of this place since the end of the war. The history of this place seems fascinating and is still largely unknown to us. Locals remember the original project as a place of entertainment and social gatherings. Back in the First Czechoslovak Republic, there was said to be the largest dance floor in the wider area, and there was never a shortage of fun and festivities. During the Second World War, the now almost non-existent building was occupied by the commanders of the Rabštejn labour camp, and it later burned down completely. The only part of the property left untouched is the ancient underground space, which time has not changed much. It remains unique and original.
But what existed before that? When were these underground spaces created? We still do not know, and we would be grateful for any sources of information about how and when this cave in Janská came to be.
